Kuntī’s Lament and Govinda’s Consolation
The verse highlights dharma in conduct: first fulfill the duty of hospitality toward a guest, then proceed to serious inquiry. It also models righteous concern—Vidura’s first question is about the welfare of the Pāṇḍavas, reflecting ethical responsibility and compassion amid political tension.
Kṛṣṇa has been received and honored as a guest. After the formalities of atithi-satkāra are completed, Vidura speaks with him and asks for news of the Pāṇḍavas’ well-being, setting a tone of moral seriousness and concern in the lead-up to negotiations and conflict.
