एतज्ज्ञानं विदुर्विप्रा ध्रुवमिन्द्रियधारणम् । एतऊज्ञानं च पन्थाक्ष येन यान्ति मनीषिण:,इन्द्रियोंको दृढ़तापूर्वक संयममें रखना चाहिये। विद्वान् ब्राह्मण इसीको ज्ञान मानते हैं। यह ज्ञान ही वह मार्ग है, जिससे मनीषी पुरुष चलते हैं

etaj jñānaṃ vidur viprā dhruvam indriya-dhāraṇam |
etad ū jñānaṃ ca panthāś ca yena yānti manīṣiṇaḥ ||
Sañjaya berkata: “Para Brāhmaṇa yang berilmu mengetahui inilah pengetahuan yang sejati—penguasaan pancaindera yang teguh. Inilah pengetahuan, dan inilah jalan yang ditempuh oleh orang bijaksana.”

True knowledge is defined as unwavering restraint of the senses (indriya-dhāraṇa). Such self-mastery is presented not merely as a technique but as the very path on which the wise advance.
