Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Appraisal of Strength and Preference for Śama
जातिगृद्धयाभिपन्नाश्न पाण्डवानामनेकश: । धर्मादय: समेष्यन्ति समाहूता दिवौकस:,“इसके सिवा पाण्डवोंका जन्म अनेक देवताओंसे हुआ है, इसलिये वे धर्म आदि देवता युधिष्ठिर आदिके बुलानेपर उनकी सहायताके लिये अवश्य पधारेंगे
jātigṛddhyābhipannāś ca pāṇḍavānām anekaśaḥ | dharmādayaḥ sameṣyanti samāhūtā divaukasaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: Didorong oleh keterikatan pada keturunan dan pertalian darah mereka sendiri, para dewa yang berhubung dengan para Pāṇḍava dalam pelbagai cara—Dharma dan yang lain-lain, para penghuni kayangan—pasti akan berhimpun apabila diseru, datang membantu Yudhiṣṭhira dan saudara-saudaranya.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links rightful cause and dharmic leadership with the expectation of support from higher powers: when those bound by duty, origin, and moral order are invoked, they are inclined to rally to protect and uphold dharma.
In the Udyoga Parva’s lead-up to war, Vaiśampāyana explains that because the Pāṇḍavas are born through various deities, those very gods—beginning with Dharma—will gather and come when called, to assist Yudhiṣṭhira and his brothers.
