Karma, Varṇa-Dharma, and the Ethics of Governance
[दाक्षिणात्य अधिक पाठका १ श्लोक मिलाकर कुल ५९ “लोक हैं।] - इस प्रकार यद्यपि गृहस्थाश्रममें रहने और संन्यास लेनेका भी शास्त्रद्वारा ही विधान किया गया है
sañjaya uvāca |
āmantṛye tvāṁ naradeva-deva gacchāmy ahaṁ pāṇḍava svasti te 'stu |
kaccin na vācā vṛjinaṁ hi kiñcid uccāritaṁ me mama manaso 'bhiṣaṅgāt ||
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai dewa di antara para raja, wahai Pāṇḍava, semoga sejahtera atasmu. Kini aku memohon izin berundur dan berangkat ke Hastināpura. Katakanlah—adakah kerana gelora perasaan yang tiba-tiba dalam hatiku, aku telah terucap walau sepatah kata yang sedikit pun menyakitkan atau tidak wajar, hingga menimbulkan dukamu?”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights ethical vigilance in speech: even when acting as a messenger, one should be mindful that emotional agitation can lead to harmful words. Sañjaya models humility and accountability by asking whether anything he said caused hurt.
Sañjaya, having met Yudhiṣṭhira, takes formal leave and prepares to return to Hastināpura. Before departing, he courteously inquires whether any of his words—spoken under mental impulse—might have offended or distressed Yudhiṣṭhira.
