अम्बोपाख्याने तापसानां विचारः तथा होत्रवाहनस्य उपदेशः
Ambā among ascetics; Hotravāhana directs her to Paraśurāma
अनुज्ञाता ययौ सा तु कन्या शाल्वपते: पुरम्,आज्ञा पाकर राजकन्या अम्बा वृद्ध ब्राह्मणोंके संरक्षणमें रहकर शाल्वराजके नगरकी ओर गयी। उसके साथ उसकी धाय भी थी। उस मार्गको लाँचधचकर वह राजाके यहाँ पहुँच गयी और शाल्वराजसे मिलकर इस प्रकार बोली--“महाबाहो! महामते! मैं तुम्हारे पास ही आयी हूँ
anujñātā yayau sā tu kanyā śālva-pateḥ puram | ājñāṃ prāpya rāja-kanyā ambā vṛddha-brāhmaṇānāṃ saṃrakṣaṇeṇa śālva-rājasya nagaraṃ prati yayau | tayā sārdhaṃ dhātrī api āsīt | mārgaṃ parīkṣya sā rājñaḥ samīpaṃ prāptā śālva-rājena ca samāgamya evam uvāca— “mahābāho mahāmate! ahaṃ tvām eva śaraṇaṃ prāptā” ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Setelah mendapat izin, puteri Ambā pun berangkat menuju kota Raja Śālva. Di bawah lindungan para Brahmana yang tua, serta ditemani inang pengasuhnya, dia menempuh jalan itu dengan cermat hingga tiba di hadapan raja. Bertemu Śālva, dia berkata: ‘Wahai yang berlengan perkasa, wahai yang berhati luhur! Aku datang kepadamu seorang diri, menjadikanmu tempat berlindung yang kupilih.’”
भीष्म उवाच
The passage foregrounds dharma around consent and rightful choice in marriage: Amba asserts her intended alliance by personally approaching Shalva, while her travel under Brahmin guardianship reflects the social-ethical duty of protection and propriety.
After being allowed to leave, Amba travels—protected by elder Brahmins and accompanied by her nurse—to Shalva’s city. She reaches Shalva, meets him, and declares that she has come to him as her chosen refuge/partner.
