भीष्म–दुर्योधनसंवादः — शिखण्डिनं न हन्तुं कारणकथनम्

Amba-ākhyāna prologue

एष योत्स्यति संग्रामे सूदयन्‌ वै परान्‌ रणे । भगवानिव संक्रुद्ध: पिनाकी युगसंक्षये,जैसे प्रलयकालमें पिनाकधारी भगवान्‌ रुद्र कुपित होकर प्रजाका संहार करते हैं, उसी प्रकार यह संग्राममें शत्रुओंका संहार करता हुआ युद्ध करेगा

eṣa yotsyati saṅgrāme sūdayan vai parān raṇe | bhagavān iva saṅkruddhaḥ pinākī yugasaṅkṣaye ||

Bhishma berkata: “Orang ini akan bertempur dalam perang besar, membunuh musuh di tengah gelanggang—seperti Tuhan yang mulia, pemegang Pināka (Rudra), yang murka pada akhir suatu zaman lalu memusnahkan makhluk. Demikianlah dia akan berperang, dahsyat dalam amarah dan tidak tertahan oleh kekuatan.”
