Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds satya (truthful speech) and the ethical weight of promises. It also shows how carefully framed words—especially vows of service—can influence another’s emotions and decisions, raising questions about truth, intention, and moral strategy in situations of unequal power.

Indrāṇī tells Nahuṣa that she will come and attend upon him and insists she is speaking the truth. Hearing this, Nahuṣa becomes pleased. The moment functions as a turning point where her statement pacifies or gratifies him within the broader episode involving Indra’s absence and Nahuṣa’s conduct.
