Educational Q&A

This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement; its ethical function is to mark the completion of an episode that invites reflection on dharma through exemplars (Gālava and Yayāti), emphasizing that actions and choices culminate in definite outcomes, even when framed as heavenly reward.

The text is closing the chapter and identifying its placement: Udyoga Parva, within the Bhagavad-yāna section, in the Gālava episode, specifically the portion describing Yayāti’s ascent to heaven. It serves as an editorial/narrative boundary rather than advancing dialogue.
