Mātali’s Proposal for Guṇakeśī and Sumukha’s Audience with Indra
क्रियतामत्र यत्नो वै प्रीतिमानस्म्यनेन वै । अस्मै नागाय वै दातु प्रियां दुहितरं मुने,“मैं इससे बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। आप इसीके लिये यत्न कीजिये। मुने! मैं इसी नागको अपनी प्यारी पुत्री देना चाहता हूँ”
kriyatām atra yatno vai prītimān asmy anena vai | asmai nāgāya vai dātuṁ priyāṁ duhitaraṁ mune ||
“Aku benar-benar berkenan kepadanya. Usahakanlah hal ini dengan sungguh-sungguh. Wahai muni, aku ingin mengahwinkan puteriku yang tercinta dengan nāga ini.”
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights purposeful effort guided by goodwill: when a worthy intention arises and approval is granted, one should act decisively and responsibly to fulfill it—here, by arranging a marriage alliance.
Nārada expresses satisfaction and urges the sage to make the necessary arrangements, stating his intention to give his beloved daughter in marriage to a Nāga, indicating a proposed alliance and the need for practical follow-through.
