Bhīṣma berkata: “Janganlah memperlakukan sebagai barang dagangan: perbuatan menjual, perbuatan membeli, perjalanan berniaga, bahkan seorang tanggungan yang datang bersama barang miliknya.”

Bhishma underscores that dharma places limits on market logic: buying and selling are legitimate within bounds, but one must not commodify persons or relationships of dependence and protection, nor let profit-driven conduct override moral responsibility.
In Shanti Parva’s instruction on righteous conduct, Bhishma continues advising on proper social and economic behavior, listing commercial acts and the treatment of dependents as areas where ethical restraint and duty must guide action.
