Educational Q&A

The verse teaches that brāhmaṇas, as guardians of sacred knowledge and dharma, deserve consistent reverence; their words carry great potency—capable of harm when angered—yet they are naturally inclined toward grace and the welfare of others.

Vāyudeva addresses a listener affectionately and explains why brāhmaṇas should be honored: they are like ‘earth-walking gods,’ whose speech has powerful consequences, emphasizing both the danger of provoking them and the benefit of their goodwill.
