आत्मानं च विशेषेण प्रशंसाम्यनपायिनी । यस्य मे त्वं विशालाक्षि भार्या गुणसमन्विता,विशाललोचने! मैं अपनी एवं अपने सौभाग्यकी विशेषरूपसे प्रशंसा करता हूँ, जिसे तुम-जैसी सदगुणवती तथा कभी विलग न होनेवाली पत्नी प्राप्त हुई है
ātmānaṃ ca viśeṣeṇa praśaṃsāmy anapāyinī | yasya me tvaṃ viśālākṣi bhāryā guṇasamanvitā ||
Nāga berkata: “Wahai yang bermata besar! Aku memuji diriku dan tuahku yang tidak pernah pudar, kerana aku telah memperoleh engkau sebagai isteri—berhimpun segala kebajikan dan teguh setia sebagai teman hidup.”
नाग उवाच
The verse highlights ethical appreciation within marriage: recognizing one’s good fortune in receiving a virtuous, steadfast spouse, and valuing guṇa (character and qualities) as the basis of praise rather than mere external gain.
A Nāga addresses his wife affectionately as “large-eyed,” expressing personal pride and gratitude that he has a wife endowed with virtues and unwavering companionship.
