Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical prestige of dharmic action expressed through yajña: when performed with exceptional righteousness and completeness, human endeavor can attain a stature that even the gods acknowledge—symbolized by Māndhātṛ ‘surpassing’ Indra in sacrificial excellence.

A Brahmin describes a sacred locale renowned for divine sacrifices, noting that all the gods once performed rites there and that King Māndhātṛ became famous for outdoing Indra in the context of sacrificial performance, thereby establishing the place’s sanctity and historical glory.
