त्रेतायुगादौ च ततो विवस्वान् मनवे ददौ । मनुश्न लोकभूत्यर्थ सुतायेक्ष्वाकवे ददौ,फिर त्रेतायुगके आरम्भमें सूर्यने मनुको और मनुने सम्पूर्ण जगत्के कल्याणके लिये अपने पुत्र इक्ष्वाकुको इसका उपदेश दिया
tretāyugādau ca tato vivasvān manave dadau | manuś ca lokabhūtyarthaṁ sutāyekṣvākave dadau ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Kemudian, pada permulaan Tretā-yuga, Vivasvān (Dewa Matahari) menyampaikan ajaran ini kepada Manu; dan Manu, demi kesejahteraan seluruh dunia, mengajarkannya kepada puteranya, Ikṣvāku.”
