Educational Q&A

Even after a rite is properly completed, the mind may still be shaken by signs and uncertainty; dharmic life requires vigilance over one’s inner state and careful discernment of what such changes (like the wind ceasing) might indicate, rather than complacency after external ritual success.

Bhishma recounts an episode addressed to Brihaspati: a fragrant wind that had been blowing stops, and once the bali-offering to the Lord is finished, the participants become mentally anxious—suggesting an ominous or significant shift that prompts reflection about human beings and those of ‘pure birth’ (the sentence continues beyond the quoted portion).
