नरनारायण-नारदसंवादः

Nara-Nārāyaṇa–Nārada Discourse on Vision, Elements, and Entry into Vāsudeva

इस योनि-सम्बन्धसे कोई सकुशल जीता हुआ बाहर निकल आता है, तब कोई संतानको प्राप्त होता है और पुनः परस्परके सम्बन्धमें संलग्न हो जाता है ।।

nārada uvāca | asmin yoni-sambandhe kaścid eva sukhena jīvan bahir niṣkrāmati; tataḥ kaścit santānaṃ prāpya punaḥ paraspara-sambandheṣu saṃlagno bhavati || sa tasya sahajātasyāḥ saptamīṃ navamīṃ daśāṃ prāpnuvanti tataḥ pañca na bhavanti gatāyuṣaḥ ||

Nārada berkata: Daripada belenggu kewujudan berjasad ini, ada yang dapat keluar dengan selamat dan hidup; namun setelah memperoleh zuriat, dia kembali terjerat dalam pertalian dan keterikatan sesama. Diri yang hidup (Ātman), sejak zaman tanpa awal telah mengaitkan dirinya dengan tubuh yang lahir bersamanya, melalui keadaan-keadaan berturut-turut tubuh—berdiam dalam rahim, kelahiran, kanak-kanak, remaja awal, akil baligh, muda, tua, nyanyuk, terhentinya nafas hayat, dan kebinasaan. Pada keadaan ketujuh dan kesembilan, yang mengalami perubahan ialah lima unsur jasmani (pañca-bhūta), bukan Sang Diri; dan apabila jangka hayat yang ditetapkan telah habis, unsur-unsur itu tidak lagi kekal dalam keadaan kesembilan—ertinya tubuh melangkah ke keadaan kesepuluh: peleraian.
