शुकस्य योगसिद्धिः (Śuka’s Yogic Attainment and Ascent)

यहाँ इस जीवका कोई भी अपना नहीं है और वह भी किसीका अपना नहीं है। रास्तेमें मिले हुए राहगीरोंके समान यहाँ पत्नी तथा अन्य बन्धु-बान्धवोंका साथ हो जाता है, परंतु यहाँ पहले कभी किसीने किसीके साथ चिरकालतक सहवासका सुख नहीं उठाया है ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | na iha jīvasya kaścid api svajanaḥ, na cāyaṃ kasyacid api svajanaḥ | pathi saṃgatānām iva pathikānāṃ saṃyogaḥ patnyādyaiḥ bandhujanaiḥ bhavati; na tu pūrvaṃ kadācit kenacid kenacit sārdhaṃ cirakālaṃ sahavāsasukham anubhūtam || kṣipyante tena tenaiva niṣṭanantaḥ punaḥ punaḥ | kālena jātā yātā hi vāyunā iva bhra-saṃcayāḥ ||

Bhīṣma berkata: Di dunia ini tiada makhluk hidup yang benar-benar milik sesiapa, dan tiada sesiapa pun benar-benar miliknya. Seperti para pengembara yang bertemu di jalan, seseorang hanya bersekutu sementara dengan isteri dan kaum kerabat yang lain; namun tiada siapa pernah menikmati kebahagiaan persahabatan yang berkekalan lama di sini. Walau mereka merintih dan menjerit berulang kali, Kala (Waktu) tetap mencampakkan makhluk-makhluk ke dalam kebinasaan—sebagaimana angin berulang kali mengheret dan memecah-lerai gumpalan awan berguruh.
