नृपश्रेष्ठ! यह आन्वीक्षिकी विद्या (त्रयी, वार्ता और दण्डनीति--इन तीन विद्याओंकी अपेक्षासे) चौथी बतायी गयी है। यह मोक्षमें सहायक है। पचीसवें तत्त्वरूप पुरुषसे अधिष्ठित उस विद्याका मैंने तुमसे प्रतिपादन किया था (वही विश्वावसुके निकट भी कही गयी) ॥। अथोक्तस्तु मया राजन्‌ राजा विश्वावसुस्तदा । श्रूयतां यद्‌ भवानस्मान्‌ प्रश्न॑ सम्पृष्टवानिह,राजन्‌! उस समय मैंने राजा विश्वावसुसे कहा--“गन्धर्वराज! आपने यहाँ मुझसे जो प्रश्न पूछे हैं, उनका उत्तर सुनिये

nṛpaśreṣṭha! iyaṃ ānvīkṣikī vidyā (trayī-vārtā-daṇḍanīti—etāsu tisṛṣu vidyāsu apekṣayā) caturthī proktā. eṣā mokṣe sahāyinī. pañcaviṃśe tattvarūpe puruṣeṇa adhiṣṭhitāṃ tāṃ vidyāṃ mayā te pratipāditā (sā viśvāvasoḥ samīpe’pi kathitā) || athoktas tu mayā rājan rājā viśvāvāsuḥ tadā | śrūyatāṃ yad bhavān asmān praśnaṃ sampṛṣṭavān iha ||

“Wahai raja yang terbaik, disiplin bernama Ānvīkṣikī ini—berbanding tiga ilmu (triad Veda, ekonomi/urusan kehidupan, dan ilmu pemerintahan serta hukuman)—dihitung sebagai ilmu yang keempat. Ia menjadi penolong di jalan menuju mokṣa. Telah aku huraikan kepadamu pengetahuan yang berasaskan prinsip kedua puluh lima, iaitu Puruṣa; ajaran yang sama juga pernah diucapkan di hadapan Raja Viśvāvasu. Lalu, wahai raja, aku berkata kepada Raja Viśvāvasu: ‘Wahai tuan para Gandharva, dengarlah kini jawapan bagi pertanyaan yang tuanku ajukan kepadaku di sini.’”
