अध्याय २९७ — श्रेयः, धृति, दान-नियमाः

Welfare, Steadfastness, and Norms of Giving

न चैशि: पुण्यकर्माणो युज्यन्ते चाभिसंधिजै: । एवंविधैश्व बहुभिरपरै: प्राकृतेरपि,पुण्यकर्म करनेवाले मनुष्य इस तरहके उपायोंसे प्राण नहीं देते तथा ऐसे-ऐसे दूसरे अधम उपायोंसे भी उनकी मृत्यु नहीं होती

na caiśiḥ puṇyakarmāṇo yujyante cābhisaṃdhijaiḥ | evaṃvidhaiś ca bahubhir aparaiḥ prākṛter api ||

Parāśara berkata: Mereka yang tekun pada amal kebajikan tidak menemui ajal melalui helah yang direka dengan tipu muslihat; dan mereka juga tidak binasa oleh banyak cara hina yang lain, yang timbul daripada tabiat duniawi yang biasa. Rangkap ini menegaskan pandangan etika bahawa hidup yang berakar pada kebajikan tidak mudah ditumbangkan oleh komplot remeh dan strategi yang tidak mulia.
