अध्याय २८६ — पराशर-उपदेशः

Ethical Restraint, Mortality, and Karma

उपक्रमानहं वेद पुनरेव फलोदयान्‌ । लोके फलानि चित्राणि ततो न विमना हाहम्‌,मुझे कर्मोके आरम्भका तथा उनके फलोदयकालका भी ज्ञान है और लोकमें जो भाँति-भाँतिके कर्मफल प्राप्त होते हैं, उनको भी मैं जानता हूँ; इसीलिये मेरे मनमें कभी खेद नहीं होता

upakramān ahaṃ veda punar eva phalodayān | loke phalāni citrāṇi tato na vimanā hy aham ||

“Aku mengetahui permulaan segala perbuatan, dan juga saat hasilnya masak berbuah. Aku pun mengetahui betapa beraneka ragam buah karma tampak di dunia. Maka fikiranku tidak tenggelam dalam sesal atau putus asa.”
