अहिंसा-प्रधान धर्मविचारः

यानश्रुबिन्दूनू पतितानपश्यं ये पाणिभ्यां धारितास्ते पुरस्तात्‌ । ते व्याधयो मानवान्‌ घोररूपा: प्राप्त काले कालयिष्यन्ति मृत्यो,“मृत्यो! मैंने पहले तुम्हारे जिन अश्रुबिन्दुओंको गिरते देखा और जिन्हें अपने हाथोंमें धारण कर लिया था, वे ही समय आनेपर भयंकर रोग बनकर मनुष्योंको कालके गालमें डाल देंगे

yān aśrubindūn patitān apaśyaṁ ye pāṇibhyāṁ dhāritās te purastāt | te vyādhayo mānavān ghorarūpāḥ prāpta-kāle kālayiṣyanti mṛtyoḥ ||

Bhīṣma berkata: “Wahai Maut, titisan air matamu yang pernah kulihat jatuh, dan yang kutadah dengan kedua tanganku di hadapanku—apabila tiba waktunya, ia akan menjadi penyakit-penyakit yang menggerunkan dan akan mengheret manusia ke rahang Maut.”
