Educational Q&A

A kingdom prospers when it shelters and honors self-restrained brāhmaṇas who live by harmless, minimal means (gleaning and day-to-day subsistence). Their austerity and non-burdensome presence strengthen the moral order that supports political well-being.

Vyāsa describes a sign of a well-ordered realm: the residence of revered brāhmaṇas practicing uñcha-śila and kāpotī-vṛtti. Their way of life implies a society where virtue is protected and coercion is absent, leading to the state’s growth.
