Vānaprastha-vṛtti and the Transition toward the Fourth Āśrama (वानप्रस्थवृत्तिः चतुर्थाश्रमोपक्रमश्च)

प्रज्ञया निश्चिता धीरास्तारयन्त्यबुधान्‌ प्लवै: | नाबुधास्तारयन्त्यन्यानात्मानं वा कथंचन,जिन्हें बुद्धिद्वारा तत्त्वका पूर्ण निश्चय हो गया है, वे धीर पुरुष अपनी ज्ञाननौकाद्वारा दूसरे अज्ञानियोंको भी भवसागरसे पार कर देते हैं, परंतु जो अज्ञानी हैं वे न तो दूसरोंको तार सकते हैं और न अपना ही किसी प्रकार उद्धार कर पाते हैं

prajñayā niścitā dhīrās tārayanty abudhān plavaiḥ | nābudhās tārayanty anyān ātmānaṃ vā kathaṃcana ||

Orang-orang teguh yang dengan kebijaksanaan telah memastikan kebenaran, menyeberangkan yang jahil melintasi lautan kewujudan duniawi dengan rakit pengetahuan. Tetapi yang jahil tidak mampu menyeberangkan orang lain, bahkan tidak dapat menyelamatkan dirinya sendiri dengan apa cara sekalipun.

Only those who have firm, realized discernment of truth can effectively guide others; wisdom functions like a raft that carries both the guide and the guided across the dangers of saṃsāra, whereas ignorance lacks the capacity to liberate either oneself or others.
