Bali–Vāsava Dialogue on Kāla and Steadfastness
सुखं दान्त: प्रस्वपिति सुखं च प्रतिबुद्धयते । सुखं लोके विपर्येति मनश्नास्य प्रसीदति,दमका पालन करनेवाला मनुष्य सुखसे सोता, सुखसे जागता और सुखसे ही संसारमें विचरता है तथा उसका मन भी प्रसन्न रहता है
sukhaṃ dāntaḥ prasvapiti sukhaṃ ca pratibudhyate | sukhaṃ loke viparyeti manaś cāsya prasīdati ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Orang yang mengawal diri tidur dengan tenteram dan bangun dengan tenteram. Berjalan dalam dunia, dia hidup dengan mudah; dan hatinya pun tetap tenang.”
भीष्म उवाच
Self-restraint (dama) yields immediate, lived happiness: restful sleep, peaceful waking, ease in daily life, and a mind that remains calm and content.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma and inner discipline, Bhīṣma teaches the benefits of controlling the senses and mind, presenting self-control as a practical foundation for peace.
