Educational Q&A

Bhīṣma highlights the attractive, richly adorned enjoyments of the divine worlds—vimānas, assembly-halls, and pleasure-grounds—pointing to the doctrine of karma-phala: refined, desirable experiences arise as results of accumulated merit (puṇya).

In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs the king on dharma and its results. Here he describes the splendor of the gods’ abodes—vehicles that move by will, divine halls, and golden lotus-ponds—as part of an account of higher realms and the fruits of virtuous conduct.
