Bhrigu–Bharadvaja Dialogue: A Karma-Based Account of Varṇa
समवैक्षत त॑ विप्रो ज्ञानदीर्घेण चक्षुषा । ददर्श चैनं देवानां देवमिन्द्र शचीपतिम्,ऐसा कहकर ब्रह्मर्षिने उसकी ओर ज्ञानदृष्टिसे देखा। तब उसके रूपमें इन्हें देवदेव शचीपति इन्द्र दिखायी दिये
samavaikṣata taṁ vipro jñānadīrgheṇa cakṣuṣā | dadarśa cainaṁ devānāṁ devam indraṁ śacīpatim ||
Bhīṣma berkata: Brahmana-resi itu memandangnya dengan mata pengetahuan rohani yang menembus jauh. Dalam rupa yang sama itu, beliau melihat Indra—tuan para dewa, raja ilahi, suami Śacī—tersingkap di hadapannya.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights that higher truth is apprehended through jñāna (inner knowledge) rather than ordinary sight; spiritual discernment can reveal the divine reality concealed within an apparent form.
A brahmin-sage directs his ‘far-reaching’ vision of knowledge toward a person before him and perceives that the figure is in fact Indra, the lord of the gods, identified by the epithet Śacīpati.
