असंतोषादिदोष-निरूपणम्

On the Faults of Discontent and the Discipline of Detachment

आत्मोदरकृते<प्राज्ञ: करोति विघसं बहु | जयोदरं पृथिव्या ते श्रेयो निर्जितया जितम्‌,अज्ञानी मनुष्य अपने पेटके लिये ही बहुत हिंसा करता है; अतः तुम पहले अपने पेटको ही जीतो। फिर ऐसा समझा जायगा कि इस जीती हुई पृथ्वीके द्वारा तुमने कल्याणपर विजय पा ली है

ātmodarākṛte prājñaḥ karoti vighasaṃ bahu | jayodaraṃ pṛthivyā te śreyo nirjitayā jitam ||

Yudhiṣṭhira berkata: “Demi perutnya sendiri, orang yang tidak bijaksana melakukan banyak kekerasan dan kejahatan. Maka, taklukkanlah dahulu ‘perut’mu—nafsu makan dan kerakusanmu. Apabila kemenangan batin itu tercapai, seolah-olah dengan bumi yang telah ditaklukkan ini engkau telah meraih kemenangan atas apa yang benar-benar membawa kebaikan dan keberuntungan.”
