Dama-pradhāna-dharma (Self-restraint as the Root of Dharma) — Śānti-parva 154

इह त्यक्त्वा न तिष्ठन्ति बान्धवा बान्धवं प्रियम्‌ स्नेहमुत्सूज्य गच्छन्ति बाष्पपूर्णाविलेक्षणा:,बन्धु-बान्धव लोग यहाँ अपने प्रिय बन्धुओंका परित्याग करके ठहरते नहीं हैं। सारा स्नेह छोड़कर आँखोंमें आँसू भरे यहाँसे चल देते हैं

iha tyaktvā na tiṣṭhanti bāndhavā bāndhavaṁ priyam | sneham utsṛjya gacchanti bāṣpa-pūrṇāvilīkṣaṇāḥ ||

Bhishma berkata: “Di dunia ini, kaum kerabat tidak tinggal setelah meninggalkan seorang sanak yang dikasihi. Setelah menanggalkan segala keterikatan, mereka berangkat dari tempat ini dengan mata yang kabur dan dipenuhi air mata.”
