Gautama–Yama Saṃvāda: Mātṛ-Pitṛ-Ṛṇa (Debt to Parents) and Śubha-Loka Attainment
एतत् कारणसामर्थ्य श्रोतुमिच्छामि तत्त्वत: । भवन्तो5पि तपोनित्या ब्रूयुरेतत् समन्विता:,“यदि मेरे इस प्रश्नसे आपलोगोंकी तपस्यामें विघ्न पड़ रहा हो तो मैं इससे विराम लेता हूँ और यदि आपके पास बातचीतका समय हो तो जो प्रश्न मैंने उपस्थित किया है, इसका आप समाधान करें। मैं इस आशाके कारण और सामर्थ्यके विषयमें ठीक-ठीक सुनना चाहता हूँ। आपलोग भी सदा तपमें संलग्न रहनेवाले हैं; अतः एकत्र होकर इस प्रश्नका विवेचन करें”
etad kāraṇa-sāmarthyaṁ śrotum icchāmi tattvataḥ | bhavanto 'pi tapo-nityā brūyur etat samanvitāḥ ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Aku ingin mendengar, dengan sebenar-benarnya dan sejelas-jelasnya, tentang sebab ini dan daya keberkesanannya. Kamu juga sentiasa tekun dalam tapa; maka berhimpunlah dengan seia sekata dan jelaskan perkara ini. Jika pertanyaanku mengganggu pertapaanmu, aku akan berhenti; tetapi jika ada waktu untuk wacana, selesaikanlah keraguan yang telah aku bangkitkan.”
