त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma

Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 123

त॑ कदाचिददीनात्मा सखा शक्रस्य मानित: । अभ्यगच्छन्महीपालो मान्धाता शत्रुकर्शन:

taṁ kadācid adīnātmā sakhā śakrasya mānitaḥ | abhyagacchan mahīpālo māndhātā śatrukarśanaḥ ||

Bhishma berkata: Pada suatu ketika, Raja Māndhātā—berjiwa teguh, tidak lemah semangat, dihormati oleh Śakra (Indra) sebagai sahabat dan masyhur kerana menghancurkan musuh—datang menghadap baginda. Peristiwa ini menampilkan Māndhātā sebagai pemerintah yang nilainya bukan semata-mata pada kemenangan, tetapi juga pada penghormatan para dewa; menandakan bahawa kedaulatan sejati bertumpu pada keteguhan batin dan kelurusan dharma, sama seperti pada kekuatan perang.
