Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद

अपि चैतत्‌ पुरा राजन्‌ मनुना प्रोक्तमादित:

api caitat purā rājan manunā proktam āditaḥ

Bhīṣma berkata: “Lagipun, wahai Raja, prinsip ini telah diajarkan sejak dahulu oleh Manu: apabila seorang pemerintah tetap seimbang terhadap yang menyenangkan dan yang tidak menyenangkan, tidak memihak sesiapa, serta melaksanakan hukuman dengan tepat sambil melindungi rakyat dengan baik—maka pemerintahan itu sendiri tidak lain hanyalah dharma.”
