Asita Devala Observes Jaigīṣavya’s Yogic Attainment and Chooses Mokṣa-dharma (देवल-जैगीषव्योपाख्यानम्)
तत्र निर्जित्य संग्रामे मानुषान् देवतास्तथा । वरं क्रतुं समाजद्ने वरुण: परवीरहा,शत्रुवीरोंका संहार करनेवाले वरुणने संग्राममें मनुष्यों और देवताओंको जीतकर उस श्रेष्ठ यज्ञषका आयोजन किया था
tatra nirjitya saṅgrāme mānuṣān devatās tathā | varaṃ kratuṃ samājadne varuṇaḥ paravīrahā ||
Di sana, setelah menewaskan dan menundukkan dalam peperangan baik manusia mahupun para dewa, Varuṇa—pembunuh wira musuh—lalu menghimpunkan dan mengatur suatu upacara korban yang amat unggul.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse links martial supremacy with the subsequent establishment of ritual order: power gained through conquest is portrayed as being followed by the performance/organization of a great sacrifice, implying that authority should be stabilized and legitimized through dharmic, public, and sacred acts.
Vaiśampāyana reports that Varuṇa, famed as a destroyer of enemy heroes, defeated both humans and gods in battle and then arranged an excellent sacrificial rite (kratu), indicating a transition from conflict to ceremonial consolidation.
