Book 9 (Śalya-parva), Adhyāya 13 — Arjuna’s Arrow-storm and the Drauṇi Confrontation
नाशवनुवंस्तदा युद्धे प्रत्युद्यातुं महारथम् । समरांगणमें उनके बाणोंसे आच्छादित हुए पाण्डवोंके महारथी उस युद्धमें महारथी शल्यकी ओर आगे बढ़नेमें समर्थ न हो सके
nāśakan uvaṁs tadā yuddhe pratyudyātuṁ mahāratham | samarāṅgaṇe śalyasya bāṇair ācchāditāḥ pāṇḍavānāṁ mahārathāḥ tasmin yuddhe mahārathi-śalyaṁ prati agrato gantum na śekuḥ |
Sanjaya berkata: Maka, dalam pertempuran itu, para maharathi Pāṇḍava—yang diselubungi dan ditekan oleh anak panah Śalya di medan tempur—tidak mampu mara ke hadapan untuk menyambut cabaran pahlawan agung itu.
संजय उवाच
Even the mightiest warriors can be checked when an opponent gains tactical dominance; dharma in war includes prudence, coordination, and recognizing when direct advance is temporarily impossible.
Sanjaya reports that the Pāṇḍava great warriors, showered and covered by Śalya’s arrows, could not move forward to confront him directly on the battlefield.
