शल्यपरिघातः (Śalya Under Encirclement) — Mahābhārata, Śalya-parva, Adhyāya 12
The verse underscores how victory and reputation in war are remembered as defining marks—yet such marks also intensify the ethical weight of continued violence, reminding the listener that power gained through conquest carries lasting consequences.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra about the Pāṇḍavas’ position and standing amid the Kaurava forces, describing them as renowned victors—specifically as those who have subdued Kāśi—thereby emphasizing their strength and battlefield momentum.
