Aśvatthāmā’s Stuti of Rudra and Śiva’s Empowerment (सौप्तिकपर्व, अध्याय ७)

अश्वत्थामाने कहा--भगवन्‌! आज मैं आंगिरस कुलमें उत्पन्न हुए अपने शरीरकी प्रज्वलित अग्निमें आहुति देता हूँ। आप मुझे हविष्यरूपमें ग्रहण कीजिये ।। भवद्धकत्या महादेव परमेण समाधिना । अस्यामापदि विश्वात्मन्नुपाकुर्मि तवाग्रत:

bhavadbhaktyā mahādeva parameṇa samādhinā | asyām āpadi viśvātmann upākurmi tavāgrataḥ ||

Aśvatthāmā berkata: “Wahai Bhagavan! Pada hari ini, aku—yang lahir dalam keturunan Aṅgirasa—mempersembahkan tubuhku sebagai āhuti ke dalam api yang menyala-nyala. Terimalah aku sebagai havisya (persembahan korban).” Dengan bhakti kepada-Mu, wahai Mahādeva, dan dengan samādhi yang tertinggi, wahai Jiwa Semesta, dalam saat malapetaka ini aku mempersembahkan āhuti di hadapan-Mu—menjadikan diriku sendiri sebagai persembahan.
