Aśvatthāmā’s Buddhi-Doctrine and Nocturnal Incursion Resolve (अश्वत्थाम्नः बुद्धिविचारः सौप्तिकसंकल्पश्च)

“उस विकारके कारण एक ही पुरुषमें उसी समय भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकारकी बुद्धि (विचारधारा) उत्पन्न हो जाती है; परंतु अवसरके अनुरूप न होनेपर उसकी अपनी ही बुद्धि उसीके लिये अरुचिकर हो जाती है ।। निश्चित्य तु यथाप्रज्ञं यां मतिं साधु पश्यति । तया प्रकुरुते भावं सा तस्योद्योगकारिका,“मनुष्य अपने विवेकके अनुसार किसी निश्चयपर पहुँचकर जिस बुद्धिको अच्छा समझता है, उसीके द्वारा कार्य-सिद्धिकी चेष्टा करता है। वही बुद्धि उसके उद्योगको सफल बनानेवाली होती है

niścitya tu yathāprajñaṃ yāṃ matiṃ sādhu paśyati | tayā prakurute bhāvaṃ sā tasyodyogakārikā ||

Sañjaya berkata: Oleh kerana kegoncangan batin itu, dalam diri seorang yang sama boleh timbul pelbagai jenis fikiran pada saat yang sama; namun apabila tidak sesuai dengan keadaan, fikiran sendiri pun menjadi tidak disenangi olehnya. Tetapi setelah menimbang dengan saksama menurut kadar kebijaksanaannya, seseorang menetapkan suatu keputusan dan memandang satu jalan fikiran sebagai baik. Dengan pertimbangan itulah dia menggerakkan niatnya menjadi perbuatan; dan pertimbangan itu menjadi daya yang membawa usahanya menuju keberhasilan.
