Yudhiṣṭhira’s Lament and Kṛṣṇa’s Rudra-Cosmogony Explanation (सौप्तिक पर्व, अध्याय १७)
तत् प्रविद्धं तथा भूमौ तथैव प्रत्यतिष्ठत । तमुवाचाव्ययो ब्रह्मा वचोभि: शमयन्निव
tat praviddhaṃ tathā bhūmau tathaiva pratyatiṣṭhata | tam uvācāvyayo brahmā vacobhiḥ śamayann iva ||
Demikianlah, apabila ia dihumban ke bumi, lambang itu pun tegak bertapak di situ dalam rupa yang sama. Lalu Brahmā yang tidak binasa berkata-kata, seolah-olah menenangkan dengan tutur katanya—membuka suasana bagi pengekangan diri setelah gelora niat yang ganas.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even amid the aftermath of violence, the text foregrounds the need for śama (calming restraint): divine speech functions to cool agitation and redirect destructive momentum toward order and stability.
An emblem (liṅga) that has been thrown to the ground becomes firmly established there; immediately afterward, the imperishable Brahmā speaks, seemingly to pacify those present and to prevent further escalation.
