न कालो दण्डमुद्यम्य शिर: कृन्तति कस्यचित् | कालस्य बलमेतावद् विपरीतार्थदर्शनम्
na kālo daṇḍam udyamya śiraḥ kṛntati kasyacit | kālasya balam etāvad viparītārthadarśanam ||
Sañjaya berkata: Kala (Waktu) tidak benar-benar mengangkat tongkat lalu memenggal kepala sesiapa. Kekuatan Waktu hanyalah ini: ia membuat manusia melihat segala sesuatu secara terbalik—menyangka yang bermanfaat sebagai yang memudaratkan, lalu dengan pertimbangan yang sesat membawa kebinasaan ke atas dirinya sendiri.
