Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical collapse that occurs when power is used as coercion: duty (karaṇīya) and justice are inverted in the royal court, and Draupadī’s distress becomes an indictment of adharma—especially the violation of a woman’s dignity through force.

In the Kuru assembly after the dice-game, Draupadī speaks in anguish, saying that what should have been addressed first remains undone, and she is shaken because a powerful man has dragged her by force into the court—setting the stage for her protest and the elders’ responses.
