Nārada’s Examination of Royal Ethics
कच्चिद् धर्मे त्रयीमूले पूर्वराचरिते जनै: । यतमानस्तथा कर्तु तस्मिन् कर्मणि वर्तसे,तीनों वेद ही जिसके मूल हैं और पूर्वपुरुषोंने जिसका आचरण किया है, उस धर्मका अनुष्ठान करनेके लिये तुम अपने पूर्वजोंकी ही भाँति प्रयत्नशील तो रहते हो? धर्मानुकूल कर्ममें ही तुम्हारी प्रवृत्ति तो रहती है?
kaccid dharme trayīmūle pūrvarācarite janaiḥ | yatamānas tathā kartu tasmin karmaṇi vartase ||
Nārada berkata: “Adakah engkau berusaha mengikuti dharma yang berasaskan tiga Veda, yang telah diamalkan oleh orang-orang terdahulu? Adakah engkau tetap menempuh jalan perbuatan itu—tingkah laku yang selaras dengan dharma—dengan hasrat melaksanakannya sebagaimana nenek moyangmu dahulu?”
