अनयस्यानुपायस्य संयुगे परम: क्षय: । संशयो जायते साम्याज्जयश्व न भवेद्‌ द्वयो:,जिसने अच्छी नीति नहीं अपनायी है और उत्तम उपायसे काम नहीं लिया है, उसका युद्धमें सर्वया विनाश होता है। यदि दोनों पक्षोंमें समानता हो तो संशय ही रहता है तथा दोनोंमेंसे किसीकी भी जय अथवा पराजय नहीं होती

anasyānupāyasya saṁyuge paramaḥ kṣayaḥ | saṁśayo jāyate sāmyāj jayaś ca na bhaved dvayoḥ ||

Sesiapa yang memasuki peperangan tanpa dasar yang baik dan tanpa jalan yang sesuai untuk mencapai kejayaan akan menemui kebinasaan yang menyeluruh di medan perang. Dan apabila kedua-dua pihak seimbang kekuatannya, yang timbul hanyalah keraguan—tiada pihak dapat dikatakan menang dengan nyata atau kalah dengan pasti.
