Sañjaya said: O King, leaving aside the army of the charioteer’s son, Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) turned his assault elsewhere. With his arrows he dispatched many heroic warriors of the opposing side to the realm of Death—acting to rescue his own, who were being hard-pressed in the battle’s tide.

The verse highlights kṣatriya-dharma in crisis: a warrior may shift focus from a primary opponent to protect endangered allies, using force decisively to prevent the collapse of one’s side. Duty is framed as responsive protection, not rigid fixation.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna temporarily leaves the engagement with Karṇa’s forces and attacks elsewhere, shooting down many enemy champions and sending them to Mṛtyuloka, in order to relieve pressure on his beleaguered comrades.
