The verse highlights how unwavering loyalty to an unrighteous cause (Duryodhana’s interest) can become a direct instrument of others’ suffering. It also underscores the moral tension of war: sheer martial invincibility does not by itself confer righteousness, and formidable power can be aligned with adharma.
Yudhiṣṭhira is describing a key opponent in the war—someone consistently committed to Duryodhana’s advantage and determined to harm the P01476avas. He emphasizes the enemy’s extraordinary prowess by saying that even the gods led by Indra could not defeat him in the great battle.
