तमापतन्तं सहसा शूर: शौरिसहायवान् । दधार सहसा पार्थो वेलेव मकरालयम्,भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण जिनके सहायक थे, उन शूरवीर कुन्तीकुमार अर्जुनने सहसा अपनी ओर आते हुए अभश्व॒त्थामाको तत्काल उसी तरह रोक दिया, जैसे तटभूमि समुद्रको आगे बढ़नेसे रोकती है
tam āpatantaṃ sahasā śūraḥ śaurisahāyavān | dadhāra sahasā pārtho veleva makarālayam ||
Sanjaya berkata: Pada saat itu juga, Pārtha (Arjuna)—wira yang bersekutu dengan Śauri (Śrī Kṛṣṇa)—segera menahan serangan yang menerjang, bagaikan pesisir menahan lautan, tempat kediaman makara.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights disciplined courage supported by wise, dharmic guidance: when danger surges suddenly, the righteous warrior restrains it with steadiness rather than fear, and the presence of Kṛṣṇa as ally symbolizes clarity and right counsel amid violence.
An opponent rushes at Arjuna; Arjuna, aided by Kṛṣṇa, immediately halts the charge. The poet illustrates this with a simile: as the shore prevents the ocean from overrunning the land, so Arjuna checks the attacker’s advance.
