अर्जुनस्य द्रोणिप्रतिघातः कर्णोपसर्पणं च
Arjuna Checks Droṇaputra; Karṇa Advances
sañjaya uvāca | yuyudhe pāṇḍubhiḥ sārthaṃ karṇasyāpyāyayan balam | duḥśāsanaḥ vidhipūrvakaṃ sajāye (sajjīkṛte) dvitīye rathopaviśya karṇasya balaṃ vardhayann punaḥ pāṇḍavaiḥ saha yuddhaṃ kartum ārabdhavān |
Sanjaya said: Duhshasana, having duly mounted another prepared chariot in proper order, began once again to fight alongside the Pandavas, seeking to strengthen Karna’s force. The scene underscores how, amid the chaos of battle, disciplined support and renewed engagement are used to sustain a commander’s power—even when the cause itself is driven by hostility and adharma.

Even in war, effectiveness often depends on orderly, disciplined support (vidhipūrvakam) and the deliberate strengthening of leadership (āpyāyayan balam). Ethically, the verse also highlights how such discipline can be employed in service of an unrighteous cause, reminding readers that competence and dharma are not identical.
Sanjaya reports that Duhshasana mounts another prepared chariot and re-enters the fight, acting to bolster Karna’s strength and continuing the battle against the Pandavas.
