Droṇanidhana-anantaraṃ sainya-viṣādaḥ and Karṇa-pravṛttiḥ
After Droṇa’s fall: army despondency and Karṇa’s advance
रामनारदकण्वाद्य्हितमुक्तं सभातले | न गृहीतमनुस्मृत्य कच्चिन्न कुरुषे व्यथाम्,“सभामें परशुराम, नारद और महर्षि कण्व आदिकी कही हुई हितकर बातें आपने नहीं मानी थीं। अब उन्हें स्मरण करके कया आपके मनमें कष्ट नहीं हो रहा है?
rāma-nārada-kaṇvādyaiḥ hitam uktaṃ sabhā-tale | na gṛhītam anusmṛtya kaccin na kuruṣe vyathām ||
Vaiśampāyana berkata: “Di balairung perhimpunan, nasihat yang bermanfaat yang diucapkan oleh Rāma (Paraśurāma), Nārada, dan resi agung Kaṇva serta yang lain-lain tidak tuanku terima. Kini, apabila tuanku mengingati kata-kata baik itu, tidakkah hati tuanku terasa perit?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Wholesome counsel given by the wise should be accepted when offered; ignoring it leads to later remorse. The verse highlights ethical accountability: memory of neglected dharmic guidance becomes a source of inner suffering when consequences unfold.
Vaiśampāyana recalls that in an earlier court/assembly setting, revered figures like Paraśurāma, Nārada, and Kaṇva had spoken beneficial advice, which was not heeded. He now asks whether, remembering that refusal, the listener is tormented by regret.
