Pacification of the Nārāyaṇāstra and Drauni’s Renewed Assault

Educational Q&A

The verse uses a simple ethical image: illumination removes fear and confusion just as knowledge and alertness remove the ‘darkness’ of danger and delusion. In a war setting, it underscores the value of vigilance and clear perception amid chaos.

Sañjaya describes a scene where the battlefield (or camp) is shrouded in terrifying darkness, which is then dispelled as torches are lit in many places, making the area visible and safer for action.
