Adhyāya 143: Nocturnal duels—Nākuli and Citraseṇa; Vṛṣasena’s assault; Duḥśāsana vs Prativindhya
सो<यं गुरुतरो भार: सैन्धवार्थे समाहित: । ज्ञातव्यक्ष हि मे राजा रक्षितव्यश्ष॒ सात्यकि:,“इस समय सिन्धुराज जयद्रथके कारण यह मुझपर बहुत बड़ा भार आ गया। एक तो मुझे राजाका कुशल-समाचार जानना है, दूसरे सात्यकिकी भी रक्षा करनी है
so 'yaṃ gurutaro bhāraḥ saindhavārthe samāhitaḥ | jñātavyaś ca hi me rājā rakṣitavyaś ca sātyakiḥ ||
Sanjaya berkata: “Kerana urusan yang menyangkut raja Sindhu (Jayadratha), kini beban yang lebih berat telah jatuh ke atas diriku. Aku mesti mengetahui kesejahteraan baginda raja, dan aku juga mesti memastikan perlindungan bagi Satyaki.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of responsibility in crisis: one must balance urgent political intelligence (the king’s welfare) with immediate protective duty toward an ally (Satyaki), showing that dharma in war often involves competing obligations.
Sanjaya describes the pressure created by the Jayadratha-related situation: he must find out how the king is faring while also ensuring Satyaki’s safety, indicating simultaneous, high-stakes concerns on the battlefield.
