Description of the Dvīpa, Varṣas, and Mount Meru
सर्वकामफलास्तत्र केचिद् वृक्षा जनाधिप । अपरे क्षीरिणो नाम वृक्षास्तत्र नराधिप
sañjaya uvāca |
sarvakāmaphalās tatra kecid vṛkṣā janādhipa |
apare kṣīriṇo nāma vṛkṣās tatra narādhipa ||
Sañjaya berkata: “Wahai tuan manusia, di wilayah itu ada pepohon tertentu yang mengurniakan segala buah yang dihajati. Dan, wahai pemerintah manusia, ada pula pepohon lain yang disebut ‘Kṣīriṇa’ yang sentiasa mengalirkan susu—manis laksana amṛta dan lengkap dengan enam rasa—sehingga daripada buahnya pun terzahir pakaian dan perhiasan menurut kehendak.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights a mythic landscape of effortless abundance—symbols of a realm where needs are met without exploitation—implicitly contrasting with the scarcity and violence of the war setting and reminding the listener that true prosperity is envisioned as harmonious and life-sustaining.
Sañjaya continues his report to the king, describing extraordinary trees in a wondrous region: some grant any desired fruit, while others called Kṣīriṇa continually exude nectar-like milk, and their fruits can manifest items such as clothing and ornaments as wished.
