भीष्मस्य भीमसेन-निरोधः
Bhīṣma checks Bhīmasena; matched engagements intensify
स्थिताश्च सर्वे त्वयि भूतसंघा: कृत्वा55श्रयं त्वां वरदं सुबाहो । अनादिमध्यान्तमपारयोगं लोकस्य सेतु प्रवदन्ति विप्रा:
sthitāś ca sarve tvayi bhūtasaṅghāḥ kṛtvā śrayaṃ tvāṃ varadaṃ subāho | anādimadhyāntam apārayogaṃ lokasya setuṃ pravadanti viprāḥ ||
Bhīṣma berkata: “Wahai yang berlengan perkasa! Segala kumpulan makhluk bernaung pada-Mu—pemberi anugerah—dan tinggal teguh dalam-Mu sahaja. Para resi menyatakan bahawa Engkau tiada berawal, tiada pertengahan, tiada berakhir; melampaui segala ukuran yang membatasi; dan Engkaulah ‘jambatan’ (setu) yang menegakkan tata-dharma dunia.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches that the highest refuge is the supreme principle/person in whom all beings are sustained. True authority is described as boundless and timeless, and as the ‘setu’—the stabilizing bridge that preserves lokadharma (the moral and social order).
Bhīṣma, speaking in the Bhīṣma Parva context, offers a hymn-like characterization of the addressed lord as the universal support. He reports the testimony of learned sages who define this lord as infinite and as the protector of worldly order.
